Resumen

El optimismo es reconocido por desempeñar un papel fundamental en la experiencia humana, contribuyendo a niveles más altos de bienestar, mayor logro de metas y una mejor condición de salud. Aunque las preguntas sobre expectativas futuras se dirigen a menudo a los niños, son escasos los estudios sobre este tema en la literatura con este público. Así, el presente estudio busca evaluar el papel de la personalidad en la comprensión de la visión optimista de los niños sobre el futuro. Participaron 406 niños, con una edad promedio de 10 años (8 a 12 años; SD = 1,10), la mayoría del sexo femenino (56,3%) y provenientes de escuelas públicas (34,2%). Respondieron a la Escala de Perspectiva de Futuro Infantil, el Cuestionario de Cinco Factores para Niños y preguntas sociodemográficas. Los resultados indican una correlación positiva y significativa entre el optimismo frente al futuro y la amabilidad (r = 0,30), la conciencia (r = 0,35), la extroversión (r = 0,17) y la apertura al cambio (r = 0,28). Sin embargo, solo la conciencia (β = 0,27) y la amabilidad (β = 0,28) predicen la visión optimista de los niños [R² = 0,15]. Se concluye que entender los rasgos de personalidad de los niños ofrece información sobre sus visiones del futuro que favorecen intervenciones orientadas a un crecimiento más saludable.
