Abstract
Introduction: This study investigated the experience of gay black men in psychotherapy, considering the intersectionalities of racial and sexual, with the aim of identifying the critical factors that affect psychotherapy for this clientele. Methodology: A qualitative approach was used, involving interviews with four gay black men in Rondônia. The data were analyzed using the Phenomenological Method to identify common meanings and structures of experience. Results: The results identified the following critical factors for serving this clientele: Dynamic Intersectional Perspective (DIP); Psychotherapeutic Identity Dissonance (PID); Psychotherapeutic Intersectional Competence (PIC); Psychotherapeutic Intersectional Insensitivity (PII). Conclusión: that therapeutic interventions attentive to these critical factors can contribute to better psychological support for gay black men. Psychotherapists should be prepared to address the intersectional dynamics of identities, including those related to the power of non-minoritized identities, aiming for a more productive therapeutic relationship
